Startling Terror Tales #11 went on sale in July 1952 at ten cents, published by Star Publications out of Buffalo, New York, behind one of the most famous covers in Pre-Code horror by L. B. Cole.
Every other issue of the title is an anthology of four to seven short pieces. This one is not. It gives the whole book to a single 27-page story, running in three titled parts with the original advertising falling between them: the opening chapter, then “Master of All Evil” on page 12, then “Return from the Grave” on page 28. Book-length horror was rare on the newsstand: fewer than ten American comics published between 1950 and 1954 handed an entire horror issue to a single story.
